Recap IPL 2019
Royal
Challengers Bangalore (RCB): Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Aaron Finch
Kohli will be well-backed
by South African great AB de Villiers, who will be eager to make big runs in
this year’s IPL. De Villiers has his eyes set on the next T20 World
Cup—postponed to the next year—and the versatile South African batsman,
considered as one the finest in terms of stroke-making, will look to make most
of the opportunity.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
(RCB) also have Australian captain Aaron Finch in their roster. An attacking
batsman by nature, Finch has good experience of making runs on l0w and
batting-friendly wickets. Finch holds the record of hitting the highest T20I
score—172 for Australia against Zimbabwe—and he would be keen to make a mark
again on the IPL stage.
Chennai
Super Kings (CSK): Shane Watson
Chennai Super Kings (CSK)
may not be having a star batting line-up but they have an efficient one. Shane
Watson is the one to watch out for, as the former Australian all-rounder has
the knack of delivering in big matches. His performances in IPL 2018 was a
standout in CSK’s title win.
Delhi
Capitals (DC): Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Alex Carey
Delhi Capitals (DC) have
decked their side with some outstanding batsmen to watch out for. Their
captain, Shreyas Iyer, has shown in the past that he likes to lead from the
front and by example. Iyer has been a strong middle-order batsman for both,
Delhi Capitals and India, and his presence only consolidates the star-batting
line-up which consists of the young Prithvi Shaw and explosive
wicketkeeper-batsmen in Rishabh Pant and Alex Carey.
Kings
XI Punjab (KXIP): KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Sarfaraz Khan, Chris Gayle
If there is one team which
has the best of the young Indian batting talent, it has to be Kings XI Punjab
(KXIP). India wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul leads their batting lineup with the
likes of Test opener Mayank Agarwal, Mumbai’s aggressive batsman Sarfaraz Khan
and Karun Nair—India’s only second Test triple centurion. Apart from the Indian
contingent, KXIP will continue to have the services of the veteran in Gayle,
who still has a lot of firepower left in him.
Kolkata
Knight Riders (KKR): Shubman Gill, Andre Russell
While Kolkata Knight Riders
(KKR) have spent a lot of their energies and money on constituting a
world-beating bowling attack, they also have a few attractive batsmen. Shubman
Gill is close to India selection and this IPL will once again provide him with
the chance to make his case heard again. KKR also have the might of Andre
Russell, whose six-hitting ability is second to none. The big West Indian
batsman carries a lot of responsibility in KKR team to put up big runs quickly
for which he is known for.
Mumbai
Indians (MI): Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav
The four-time IPL
champions, Mumbai Indians, will have their best batsman and captain Rohit
Sharma taking guard once again. Rohit has been a prolific scorer for both his
franchise and the Indian team, and he would want to enjoy playing some cricket
after a very long gap of six months. Mumbai, meanwhile, also have the services
of Suryakumar Yadav, who has been in a rich form since last domestic season.
Suryakumar will want to make his case for India selection stronger with an
impressive show in this IPL.
Rajasthan
Royals: Steve Smith, Jos Buttler
While Smith will be needed
to bat for long and play a supportive role to the other batsmen, the
responsibility of attacking and scoring quick runs will be a lot on the
shoulders of England wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler. He has the ability to
hit strokes around the park and can also clear ropes at will, which will come in
very handy for the Rajasthan Royals’ side.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH): David
Warner, Jonny Bairstow, Kane Williamson
Sunrisers Hyderabad perhaps
have the best opening pair in David Warner and Jonny Bairstow, who have had
tremendous run at the top for the former champions. Warner loves playing for
Sunrisers and Bairstow, who is a naturally attacking batsman, complements him
really well. The two have had strong opening partnerships many times for
Sunrisers and the team would hope that they attain their best form soon.
Sunrisers Hyderabad also have the fine New Zealand batsman in Williamson who
will continue to be their captain. Williamson may not be as attacking a batsman
as his opponents, but his stroke-making ability brings a lot of attraction to
his batting.
